Tony Monaghan
My Ireland
Anthony Monaghan is from the beautiful West of Ireland. Due to the poor economy, he had to leave home at the age of fifteen in search of work abroad. After many hard years, he found success in America and earned enough to buy a house back in Ireland. Nonetheless, he was evicted and, once again, did not have a home in his homeland. Now, he is going back in search of answers. He travels the country and talks to Irish people from all walks of life, from a homeless Dubliner to John McGuinness of the Irish Parliament. My Ireland exposes the corruption behind the displacement of thousands of Irish people through economic migration, wrongful evictions, and the homeless crisis. It tells a story shared by countless men and women who, like Monaghan, lost their homes in Ireland.
Rednecks + Culchies
Irish tradesmen, Anthony Monaghan and John McNamara take a hard look at the drug and alcohol addictions of the American working class. One of eleven children, Monaghan is no stranger to poverty. With only five years of formal education, he left home in Western Ireland to seek work abroad. He went from picking potatoes in England to founding Irish Construction, a successful masonry company in St. Louis. Having overcome the most difficult obstacles, he is baffled by the apathy and relentless substance abuse problems of American workers.
