Fotballstjernen Jimmy Dix sin kone og sønn blir drept i en ulykke. Likeetter blir Jimmy anklaget for gambling og narkotikamisbruk. Hans nye kjæreste, Cory, engasjerer en livvakt. Han heter Joe og er en "lurvete" privatdetektiv med et familieliv som for tiden er nokså labert. Når Cory blir brutalt myrdet innleder Jimmy og Joe et nølende, men eksplosivt samarbeid. Velkommen til Valkenvania, en Twilight Zone med radarkontroll. Her havner et vellykket par, aksjemegleren Chase og advokaten Moore, etter å ha kjørt feil i trafikkmaskinen. Etter en liten fartsovertredelse sleper Valkenvanias nidkjære konstabel (Candy) paret med til stedets kombinerte rettslokale og galehus. Her er det den 106 år gamle fredsdommeren Alvin Valkenheiser (Aykroyd) som regjerer. Fra asken til ilden Nothing but Trouble (med Aykroyd og Candy i sine mest motbydelige roller) er hylende morsom.
