When a leopard attacks Raju, four elephants save this only son of wealthy parents. When Raju’s family strikes bad times, his only assets are his friends the elephants. Raju meets and falls in love with Tanu, but her father is against their love because of Raju’s poor financial background. Against her father’s wishes, Tanu marries Raju and gives birth to a baby boy. The elephants and the boy become very close, but Tanu is afraid the elephants may kill her son. This fear creates conflict between Raju and Tanu, causing them to separate. Thankfully, the elephants help them to re-unite in the knot of love.

The story revolves around three married couples. One couple, Tripathi (Sanjeev Kumar) and his wife Mary are happily married. The second couple, Geeta (Shabana Azmi) and Vinod (Vinod Mehra) live in Vinod's mother’s house. Theirs is an unhappy marriage with Vinod spending a lot of time with Leena (Prema Narayan), and frequenting late and all-night parties. His wife patiently awaits his return every night. The third couple is that of Shobha (Moushumi Chatterjee), a very jealous and possessive woman and Micky Kapoor (Jeetendra). Theirs is a seemingly happy marriage. One day when Shobha sees her husband and Radha (Tanuja) together, she thinks they are having an affair, and starts pestering Vicky about it. Suddenly their lives are turned upside down. Meanwhile, Vinod decides to leave Geeta, but meets with an accident and during his recovery period Geeta proves how important she is for him. Shobha leaves her husband and at this juncture, Tripathi steps in to mend the couple. Whether Tripathi is successful in mending these couples forms the rest of the story.

Aditya (Ajay Devgn) a film superstar and his wife Priya (Kajol) have achieved all the success they have dreamed of.
