Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is raised by his mother, Savitri (Padmini Kolhapure), who hopes that her son will grow up to be a brave Police Inspector. But Vishwas wants to become an actor. While dressed as a Police Inspector for a photo shoot, Vishwas helps out social worker Kajal (Ileana D'Cruz) who mistakes him for an Inspector. He plays along and is mistakenly published in the newspaper as an Inspector, which Savitri sees. She arrives in Mumbai to see her dream come true, and circumstances lead to Vishwas carrying on his lie not only to Kajal, but also to his mother.Eventually Vishwas's mother comes to know that he is not an inspector. He agrees to work for the local goon Gundappa in order to arrange for that money. While running an errand for the goon, he ends up shooting two police officers.
