A story of a village simpleton, Shinda (Gippy Grewal), who is a school bus driver in love with the local bank manager's sister Laali (Zareen Khan). Her brother is strictly against their relationship because of their class differences and status. They won't be able to get married unless Shinda manages to buy his own house. A quick idea for quick buck is to attempt a robbery but instead he gets caught by the local MLA who claims the loot.

Critically wounded and lying unconscious in a Mumbai hospital, ACP Yashvardhan of the Narcotics Control Bureau reflects on his life and his love-affair with Maya. With the assistance of the Commissioner as well as his colleagues, Atul, Kamlesh and Mahesh Pandey, and an informer, Arvind Shetty, he was able to apprehend drug-dealers in Kutch, Gujarat; Jalandhar, Punjab, as well as in Himachal Pradesh. Unknowingly, he paved the way for Vasu Anna Reddy to become the sole drug-dealer and invite his Mombasa-based brother, Vishnu, to join him. An encounter with the team kills Vasu and some of the team members get suspended. A vengeful Vishnu decides to target the entire police unit as well as their respective families and vows that he will not rest till he has killed them all. He starts with brutally killing Mahesh and his fiancée, Rachna and then abducts Atul's wife, Swati - with an intention of forcing him to do away with the remainder of this police team.

Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is raised by his mother, Savitri (Padmini Kolhapure), who hopes that her son will grow up to be a brave Police Inspector. But Vishwas wants to become an actor. While dressed as a Police Inspector for a photo shoot, Vishwas helps out social worker Kajal (Ileana D'Cruz) who mistakes him for an Inspector. He plays along and is mistakenly published in the newspaper as an Inspector, which Savitri sees. She arrives in Mumbai to see her dream come true, and circumstances lead to Vishwas carrying on his lie not only to Kajal, but also to his mother.Eventually Vishwas's mother comes to know that he is not an inspector. She faints and is admitted in the hospital, where the doctor tells him that she needs to be operated and the amount required is ten lakh rupees. He agrees to work for the local goon Gundappa in order to arrange for that money. While running an errand for the goon, he ends up shooting two police officers. Vishwas, now a murderer, has no choice but to join Gundappa’s gang. Will Vishwas join hands with the evil goon and turn into one himself? Will he ever be able to fulfill his mother’s dream?
