Balladen om Cat Ballou
Cat Ballou var en overraskelseshit som ble kalt en øyeblikkelig klassiker da den kom på kino i 1965 med en frekk blanding av western-parodi og fullpakket action. Lee Marvin vant en Oscar for beste mannlige birolle i dobbeltrollen som Tim Strawn, en neseløs ("den ble bitt av i en slåsskamp") revolvermann, så vel som Kid Shelleen, den svimle, fordrukne taperen som utfordrer Strawn til duell. Da han mottok prisen, sa Marvin: "Jeg tror halve denne tilhører en hest i San Fernando Valley." Dette er en referanse til en morsom scene hvor både Marvin og hesten er ubrukelig fulle og lener seg opp mot et skur (en av tidenes mest kjente visuelle vitser). Jane Fonda, som var på sitt mest sexy den gang, har rollen som Catherine "Cat" Ballou, en skolelærer på rømmen fra loven som slår seg sammen med Kid for å beskytte farens ranch fra en grisk jernbanemogul. Cat Ballou, innspilt på kun 32 dager, ble en av de største kinosuksessene i 1965 og beviste at western-parodier kunne være populære. Sanger Nat King Cole og komiker Stubby Kaye dukker også opp i denne helsprø western-komiklassikeren, der de synger temalåten "The Ballad of Cat Ballou".
