I krisgsfilmen 9. april befinner vi oss ved den dansk-tyske grensen den skjebnesvangre natten i 1940, da Europas sterkeste hær invaderer fra sør. Danmark er i krig, og for å bremse overmakten sendes en dansk fortropp bestående av sykkel- og motorsykkelavdelinger i felten. Fenrik Sand og hans avdeling skal som de første møte fiendens kampvogner og overlegne militærmakt. Likevel kjemper de danske soldatene en innbitt kamp for fedrelandet.

Three siblings, Sofie, Jonas and Emma, move to Copenhagen when their father is appointed a job at the National Museum.
