City for Conquest
Oscarvinneren James Cagney spiller en bokser på vei opp berømthetens stige, men som faller før han tar en City for Conquest. Det virker som om ingenting kan stoppe Danny Kennys (Cagney-- Yankee Doodle Dandy) meteorlignende reise mot toppen. Men når en gangster overbeviser en annen bokser om å putte syre på hanskene, forlater Kenny ringen blind. Når han prøver å ta hevn mot gangsteren som skadet ham, drar den nå blinde bokseren fra slåsskampen lamslått. Så forlater Kennys kjæreste, Peggy Nash (Ann Sheridan-- Kings Row, The Opposite Sex), ham til fordel for Murray Burns (Oscar-vinneren Anthony Quinn-- Alexis Zorbas). Kenny må nå nødt til å jobbe i en aviskiosk eid av sin tidligere manager for å tjene til livets opphold. Allikevel klarer han å skrape sammen nok til å sende lillebroren på musikkskole. Og etter år som har vært harde for både Kenny og Nash, vender Peggy Nash tilbake akkurat i tide til å høre Kennys brors første symfoni på radioen. Basert på romanen av Aben Kandel.
