After spending years exploring the Carpathian mountains of Romania on a dirtbike, he decided to create an Extreme Enduro race like no other. His idea finally came to fruition in 2004 when the Red Bull Romaniacs Hard Enduro Rallye was born. Now in its eight edition, this race has become legendary as the ultimate test of man and machine against terrain. Competitors from over 30 different nations come for the experience of a lifetime and to say they have competed in this race. The Romanian countryside offers endless trails in the high mountains, valleys and city passages during this five day event. While the terrain is beautiful and majestic, it is challenging in every aspect. If you finish red Bull Romaniacs, you can finish anything. This year, New Zealand’s Extreme Enduro star Chris Birch goes for his second win in a row. However, former champions Andreas Lettenbichler of Germany and the UK’s Graham Jarvis are hungry to steal the show. The Roof of Africa: Extreme Enduro Safari
An extreme motocross safari! The Roof of Africa is one of the longest running extreme enduro races in the world. For over 40 years, this race has attracted the world’s best motocross riders who compete each November in hopes of including this exclusive trophy to their cases. The Kingdom of Lesotho’s landscapes, deep valleys, green hillsides and crystal mountain streams paint the perfect setting for a motocross race through the Maluti Mountains. But don’t let the beautiful scenery fool you. This race will drain the life out of you. Over the course of three days, 300 competitors will put themselves through 500 kilometers of steep hill climbs, endless rock sections, rushing rivers and elevation changes that leave one gasping for air. The Tough One: The Enduro Battle Royal
Are you tough enough? T1 or better known as The Tough One is the UK’s biggest extreme enduro event. The best riders from around the world descend upon the Nantmawr Quarry in Oswestry to compete against steep hillclimbs, dangerous rocks, endurocross-type terrain and man-made obstacles. This setting sets up the perfect battle royale that is quickly gaining the reputation as one of the toughest extreme races there is. 2009’s story features 4-time winner David Knight as he debuts on the BMW 450.
