En film som virkelig får frem en «indre Elvis» i enhver fan er Jailhouse Rock, kinosuksessen fra 1957 som ifølge Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide er «Elvis' beste film». Her spiller Kongen av Rock 'n' Roll Vince Everett, som sitter i fengsel for drap etter et barslagsmål. I fengselet lærer Vince å lage låter istedet for å banke opp bartendere, og når han så endelig slipper ut på prøve, legger han ut på en humpete vei mot en karriere innen musikk og film. Historien sprites opp av seks Presley-låter av Jerry Lieber og Mike Stoller, inkludert Treat Me Nice, I Wanna Be Free og den fengende tittellåten, som var Presleys egen favoritt blant alle filmlåtene han gjorde. «Det er dyret i meg som kommer frem», sier Elvis etter å ha kysset Peggy (Judy Tyler). Kanskje det, men i denne filmen kommer det beste i ham frem også!
