Duplicate is essentially a subject about two men, one good and one bad, but co-incidentally have the same face. Bablu(Shah Rukh Khan) is basically a day dreamer and aspires to be Chef of International repute. He is forever day dreaming of cooking at 5-Star establishments. Manu Dada (Shah Rukh Khan) on the other hand is a ruthless criminal on the run. Bablu is in love with Sonia (Juhi Chawla) who is the Food & Beverage Manager of an up market hotel. She is always a part of his dreams. He wishes to take her abroad and settle down. Manu romances with a night club cabaret dancer Lily (Sonali Bendre). They together migrated from overseas and entered the world of crime in India. Bablu and Manu's tracks keep alternating till they converge at the interval point of the film. After which Manu holds the innocent Bablu at ransom and continues his violent escapades using Babloo's name. Bablu eventually retaliates and seeks revenge. This is what Duplicate is all about. The film ends on a happy note with the realization of Bablu's dreams. He is finally becomes a Chef of International fame.

This crime drama is an action packed flick revolving around a nameless orphan (Shah Rukh Khan) who is pulled into a life of crime. When he asks a priest what his name is, the priest says "Ram jaane" which means 'God knows'. He takes on this phrase as his name and it strangely ends up signifying his whole life. Used to criminal tactics since childhood, he spends most of his adolescence locked up. When he returns to the streets, he runs into his old friend Murli (Vivek Mushran) who now runs an orphanage. Murli gives Ram a shot at redemption and he ends up as the unofficial bodyguard for the children. Ram finds out that his childhood love, Bela (Juhi Chawla) lives with Murli and he falls in love all over again. Unknown to Ram, Bela is in love with Murli. Things take an ugly turn when the orphanage is assaulted by rival gangsters and corrupt police. Murli and Bela try desperately to reform Ram but not only does he relapse to old ways, he starts to influence the children to follow in his footsteps. Raja Babu (Govinda) is a poor orphan adopted by a wealthy village couple (Kadar Khan and Aruna Irani). He is a typical country bumpkin, good-hearted but lacking in urban manners. He falls for Madhu (Karishma Kapoor) when he sees her photograph in a studio and chases her on his bike decorated with plastic flowers with his sidekick, played by Shakti Kapoor. Taken in by his smart appearance and impressive talks, she reciprocates his love but walks out on him with all villagers watching when she learns that he is no match to her urbane, well-educated self. It was particularly humilitating for his father as it happened in front of villagers who respected him highly. The movies takes several twists with a typical Bollywoodesque happy ending. Villains are nabbed by police but not before being beaten black and blue by the hero, boy gets his girl and parents are reunited with their son.
