Den tidligere SS-offiseren Max jobber som nattevakt på et hotell i Wien og en av hans tidligere fanger, Lucia, sjekker inn. I konsentrasjonsleiren hadde de et sado-masochistisk forhold. Lucia og Max blir sugd inn i de gamle rollene og forholdet blusser opp igjen. Et forhold som er svært farlig fordi Max er med i en gruppe med gamle nazister som sikter på å få vitner fra Holocaust til å holde tyst.
