Joko (Joshua Garcia) is a graphic artist who aims to support his family financially. His family knows that he is in New York for work, but he ends up being scammed by a recruitment firm, leaving him with zero money to pay his debts. Embarrassed to return home, he crashes his cousin's apartment in Manila to find a high-paying job while keeping his secret. An opportunity comes knocking on his door as the multimedia personality and successful businesswoman Sasha Imperial (Kris Aquino) mistakes him for an applicant for her new assistant. Sasha instantly likes Joko, and the latter is willing to take on the role because of its notable salary. However, Sasha only hires female or gay applicants, prompting Joko to pretend to be gay to qualify. Zoey (Julia Barretto), Sasha’s ardent fan, enters the picture as a persistent applicant. With her knowledge of Sasha’s world, she becomes Joko’s instant rival. Joko now has to compete with Zoey while putting up a pretense about his gender expression. As the rivalry heightens, Joko discovers more about his opponent and begins to fall in love with her.

Shine is an optimistic and happy-go-lucky girl who will do everything for her family, even if it means doing something bad. One of her victims is the balikbayan Luke, a Filipino-American lad who was sent to the Philippines when his father died. The two met in the most unusual circumstance when Luke rescued Shine from a thief. Unfortunately, Luke finds out that Shine is involved in the scamming incident where he lost his wallet. Shine willingly becomes Luke's "prisoner" to make up for her mistake. She is forced to work multiple part-time jobs to save up money which amounts to Luke's lifetime savings. Their unlikely situation makes the people around them assume that they are in a relationship especially when Luke announced in their whole barangay that Shine is his "jowa". Will language be a barrier in their budding romance? Can they set aside their differences in changing each other's lives?
