Stab in the Dark: All Stars
Welcome to Stab in the Dark 2017 starring Jordy Smith. We are on a quest to find the best high-performance surfboard in the world. Surfing, as in art, women, literature and style is subjective. We are well aware that this is a flawed concept. However, currently, it’s the best we got. Okay, so here’s how we tango. We commission 12 of the world’s best shapers and ask them to shape us their best high-performance surfboard based on a height and weight. The shapers deliver the boards blank: No logos, no branding, thrusters only - clean and white as God’s shoeshine. The shapers don’t know the surfer, the surfer doesn’t know the shapers. It’s a blind taste test, if you will. This is our third installment of Stab in the Dark. Year one (2015) featured Julian Wilson in West Oz. He gave Darren Handley of DHD the prize of “Best Shaper in the World”. Year two (2016) starred Dane Reynolds in South Africa. There he crowned John Pyzel (the shaper of John John Florence) the best on earth. In 2017, we took World Number One (at the time), Jordy Smith to the Mentawai Islands. 12 shapers go in and one comes out the champion of the world.
The Electric Acid Surfboard Test: Stephanie Gilmore

This year's deep-dive down the alternative surfboard rabbit hole was filmed on the subtropical right points of Mozambique, directed by Stab's Editor in Chief, Ashton Goggans and Dylan Roberts, and shot by Stab's dangerous arsenal of lensmen; Dylan Roberts, Tom Jennings, and Sam Moody, with Alan Van Gysen capturing all the still life beauty along the way. This year's Electric Acid Surfboard test features an original score by Grammy Award-winning Alberto Bof, with Steph, her sister Whitney Gilmore, and Kassia Meador appearing on a few tracks.
Stab in the Dark
Is it possible to call a surfboard the best in the world? Is it possible to call a shaper the best in the world? Stab in the Dark is performance surfboard design’s ultimate double-blind Test: 11 boards, blacked out for anonymity, built by the world’s most high profile and respected shapers, for one unidentified mystery surfer. Filmed in Japan during one of the biggest typhoon swells of the year, this year’s Stab in The Dark stars 3x World Champion Mick Fanning.
Closing the Ring
1943 ga en pilot, som var døende etter et krasj med en amerikansk B-17, en ring til en lokal innbygger som skulle gi den videre til kjæresten hans i USA. Femti år senere finner en mann ringen og sporer opp kjæresten og historien bak ringen.
