Darby and the Dead is a supernatural teen comedy about a high school student who works as a spiritual messenger in his spare time. After a near-death experience when she was young, Darby gained the ability to see dead people. This makes her introverted and isolated from the others at school, and she prefers to spend her time giving advice to lonely spirits who have something to do on earth. All of this is turned on its head when Capri, the queen of the school's most popular clique, suddenly dies in a freak straightening accident. After suffering a near-death experience as a young girl, Darby Harper gains the ability to see dead people. As a result, she becomes introverted and shut off from her high school peers and prefers to spend time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on earth. But all that changes when Capri, the Queen Bee of the school’s most exclusive clique, unexpectedly dies in a freak accident, resulting in the obvious cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17.” Capri, however, pleads with Darby to intervene and convince Capri’s friends to proceed with the party as planned. To escape the wrath of the undead diva, Darby must emerge from her self-imposed exile and reinvent herself in Capri’s image, which means befriending and sucking up to the very people she previously shunned.
