Mysterious beings have been seen in Vermont, New England. A horrified eyewitness begins a correspondence with Albert Wilmarth, a well-known professor and expert in folktales, who ventures into the remote mountain regions, although he doubts the information he has been given. There, however, the professor is confronted with something, which causes him to question his rock-solid faith in science. Can he escape the delusions of madness with his life?
