One Life forteller den sanne historien om sir Nicholas «Nicky» Winton, en ung megler i London, som i månedene før andre verdenskrig reddet 669 barn fra nazistene. I desember 1938 dro Nicky til Praha, hvor han møtte familier som hadde rømt fra nazistenes frammarsj i Tyskland og Østerrike. De bodde under elendige kår med lite til ingen husly eller mat, mens de fryktet nazistenes invasjon. Han skjønte umiddelbart at det var et kappløp med tiden. Hvor mange barn kunne han og teamet redde før grensene stengte?
