In the 1960s on New Zealand's East Coast, two Maori sheep-shearing families, the Mahanas and the Poatas, are bitter rivals. Simeon Mahana, a 14-year-old, challenges his traditionalist grandfather, Tamihana, as he uncovers the truth behind their family feud, risking his future and the unity of their close-knit community.
