Theresa is an imaginative and rebellious orphan from Brooklyn with big dreams of show business success. Despite her challenging circumstances, her spirit remains unbroken as she devises outrageous schemes to launch herself into the public eye. However, her dreams seem out of reach until she meets Sammy Cohen, a washed-up comedian whose career fizzled due to alcoholism. Sammy sees potential in Theresa that others overlook and decides to take her under his wing.
